1. Your car Difficult to start
If your car's engine won't start, it could be due to spark plugs that can't produce enough sparks to start the combustion process.
You may also be having issues with the ignition system, or your car battery may need to be replaced. If the battery is the culprit, try replacing it to see if that does the trick.
2. Engine Misfires
If there is oil on the spark plug tip when you remove it, be sure to replace the plugs more frequently. This is because a cracked valve cover gasket, degradation of the spark plug O-ring, a faulty head gasket, or defective or worn valve guides can cause oil to build up.
If the engine continues to misfire, it could damage the catalytic converter, which can be a very costly repair. Stay on top of replacing your spark plugs to avoid any costly repairs down the line.
3. Engine is having some trouble idling smoothly and quietly
If you're hearing strange noises or feeling vibrations coming from your engine, it could be due to dirty spark plugs or spark plug wires. Don't worry though, this is an easy fix!
4. Fuel Consumption Increase
Maintaining clean spark plugs is important for fuel economy - dirty plugs can reduce efficiency by as much as 20-30%. A mechanic can help by replacing the plugs and adjusting them to the proper gap specification.
5. Engine Light Flashing
Not ignoring the "Check Engine," "Malfunction," or engine silhouette symbols is important. These warning lights may come on if the spark plugs fail or if the spark plug wires need replacement. However, it varies depending on the automaker’s purpose for the light.
If you see one of the above mentioned lights flashing, don't panic!
